Carbon Management
RMOTC has the field setting, infrastructure, and expertise to play an important role in carbon management testing, demonstration, and research. The unique combination of a publicly-owned and DOE-operated oil field, proximity to CO2 supply, varied and suitable geologic and reservoir settings, a saline aquifer, and a robust suite of public-domain data create a unique opportunity for testing and research. RMOTC staff and partners have initiated and completed several years of site characterization and baseline studies necessary to advance CO2 injection tests that could yield important EOR and storage findings. Numerous academic, research, and industry partners have collaborated with RMOTC geologists and engineers on these studies, creating an impressive baseline characterization data set. |
